Front page!

On Tuesday we went on a Field trip to the Hayner the Court house. We met a newspaper photographer who took this picture of us and put us on the front page! We were learning about architecture and famous buildings with our friends Mark, Hannah, Ezekiel, Josiah and Zane.

Toothpick buildings

Last Tuesday we built buildings out of marshmallows and toothpicks. You put a marshmallow on a toothpick then put another toothpick on to build. Here are some pictures:)

The Wright Three post #2

The Fibonacci Sequence and Pascal's Triangle.
I forgot to mention this in the other post but there is an invisible man in one of the Robie House windows. See below:

We also learned about the Fibanacci Sequence. This a pattern of numbers where each number is the sum of the two numbers before it. It is named after the Italian mathematician, Fibonacci. Click here for more cool stuff about the Fibonacci Sequence. Click here for more about The Wright Three and pentaminos.

I have been doing a lot of typing today so I dictated this post to my mom.

The Wright Three

A couple weeks ago we listened to a CD called The Wright Three by Blue Balliet. It is about three kids who are trying to save the Robie house which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. One of them finds a fish carving that Frank Lloyd Wright had. One of the tools that they use are pentaminoes. They are little pieces that you can arrange in patterns. Here are some pictures of pentaminos.

This is my brother Adam playing with pentaminos.
These are pentaminos.

The Winans Factory

Today we went to the Winans chocolate factory. We got to get a tour of the factory and see how and where they make chocolate. Here are some pictures of the tour.

This is my baby cousin Ruby. (She and I have the same birthday, July 8.)
This is where the make caramel. They make about 90,000 lbs of candy per year.
This is where they make the chocolate.
This is where we got to make an chocolate covered oreos. First you put the oreos on this machine that puts chocolate on the bottom of the oreos then it freezes it. Then it goes though this chocolate waterfall that puts chocolate on the top. After that you put candy on top and it goes though a freezing machine.
Here is the chocolate waterfall.
This is a machine that puts chocolate on the bottom and freezes it.
The oreos are approaching the waterfall.
This is us puting on the candy.
This is where the candy comes out.
This is George the bunny. They make him every Easter.(It was funny because my cousin George was with us! He is the one in the army sweatshirt.)
This is a very big egg. They only make four of these a year.
This is where they make caramel.
And this is the worlds oldest Hobart mixer. (1911)
This is how they make buckeyes.

These are caramels.
This is me eating a buckeye(yum!).
These are little peppermint candy's.
This is my little sister Abby.
Right here is where they wrap the candy to sell at Winan's.
This is the whole entire group. It is all the Twiss grandkids.(These are all my cousins!)

This is me and my other cousin Will. (We had to wear these hats so are hair didn't fall in the chocolate.)
