Today we went to the Winans chocolate factory. We got to get a tour of the factory and see how and where they make chocolate. Here are some pictures of the tour.
This is my baby cousin Ruby. (She and I have the same birthday, July 8.)
This is where the make caramel. They make about 90,000 lbs of candy per year.
This is where they make the chocolate.
This is where we got to make an chocolate covered oreos. First you put the oreos on this machine that puts chocolate on the bottom of the oreos then it freezes it. Then it goes though this chocolate waterfall that puts chocolate on the top. After that you put candy on top and it goes though a freezing machine.
Here is the chocolate waterfall.

The oreos are approaching the waterfall.
This is us puting on the candy.
This is where the candy comes out.
This is George the bunny. They make him every Easter.(It was funny because my cousin George was with us! He is the one in the army sweatshirt.)
This is a very big egg. They only make four of these a year.

And this is the worlds oldest Hobart mixer. (1911)

Hi Caleb, I am Joe, the owner of Winans Chocolates and Coffees. I am sorry I was not able to join you on your tour today. I really enjoyed your blog and think it is probably the best blog I have ever seen written about Winans. I think you have a bright future as a writer and blogger. Keep up the good work. I may have to hire you to manage the Winans Blog! Glad you had a good time.
ReplyDeleteAll the best, Joe (The Candyman!)
Hey Caleb -
ReplyDeleteI'm Julie, one of Miss Clara's kids. I remember visiting the candy kitchen when I was a kid, and how much I loved to watch the enrober machine cover things with chocolate. I still love to watch it!
Have you seen the episode of "I Love Lucy" where Lucy and her friend work in a candy factory? It's pretty funny.
Caleb,
ReplyDeleteI had a really fun time, too! I think that my favorite sample was the chocolate covered oreo even though I LOVE Buckeyes also. I was expecting to like the oreo that much.
Good job on your post. You are really improving as a writer and I am proud of you!
Love, Mom
nice job self!!!
